Description:
In the last few years, there has been a deluge of books by first time author in the market. We have had so many IIT/ IIM/Engineering College books that I have lost count, a couple about Medical Colleges (Bombay Girls, Bombay Rain by Anirban Bose and The Long Road by yours truly) and one about JNU ( Something of a Mocktale by Soma Das)but Abhishek Bose has scored a first by writing about life in a Law College.
A slim volume, the book is an easy read. A simple tale about a law student, the book follows the life of Abhishek Banerjee, who joins Animus Law College, Dehradun. The book flows along like a gurgling brook, meandering through the gentle curves as it follows the life of the protagonist. No steep gradients, no dramatic flourishes, no rapids as it talks about rigours of studies, the small pleasures of life, love, heartbreak and camaraderie between friends. It paints a pretty picture of the life in a law college as the protagonist moves through the five years of college and gets his degree and his girl.( he is the hero, after all) The only crib I have is that he gets both in the first chapter as the entire book is in flashback. This kills the suspense as we know how the book is going to end. And Abhishek, the hero cries too often for my liking. I accept that real men do cry (at times) but not for girls.
Considering that it is the first attempt by the author, it is not a bad effort. The start is a bit slow, but it picks up steam and I started enjoying the read as the story progressed. I am sure it will appeal to the younger generation of readers.
